WHAT GOOD IS IT?
When rating rules of thumb, if you can't think of something the rule is actually good for then it isn't a rule of thumb.

RULES OF THUMB
People who use Rules of Thumb if/when investing (without doing collateral research) deserve what they get ... which is usually far less than what they thought!

PULLING TANGLED CABLES
If you want to pull a cable out of a tangled mess, don't pull on one end. Instead, find a loop near the middle of the cable and start pull it from there. You'll encounter more than half the resistance of pulling it from one end.

SECURE PASSWORD
When selecting a password it is always better to choose a more complex password and write it down on a paper than selecting an password that's easier to remember. A secure password should contain at least one letter, one digit and one other character and shouldn't be shorter than 6-8 characters. If you write the password down, make sure it can't be connected to a username and where it's used. If possible you should write it using shorthand/stenography or as a sentence that reminds you of the password (i.e. Two Cows Walked over one bridge on Their way Home -> 2CsW01_oTwayH).

GATHERING WOOD FOR A FIRE
To build a campfire that will last long enough to cook meal and then some gather : Two generous hands full of tinder to light the fire; twigs no thicker than a pencil lead and about as long as the distance between the tip of your thumb to the tip of your little finger across your outstretched hand. A generous double armload of kindling to get the fire going; no thicker than your thumb and about as long as the distance from the crook of your elbow to the tip of your fingers. Fuel wood to keep the fire going; no thinner than your wrist, as long as your arm piled as high as your knee
