ASSESSING A DOG ATTACK
If a dog is charging you and barking, it is merely defending territory and will not bite. A dog that is charging and not barking is attacking you.

RULE ABOUT RULES
Rules-of-thumb help you estimate something quickly. On average, there'll be about two good rules-of-thumb out of the eleven or so proposed on a page. They're the ones which contain or refer to numbers. The rest are tips and sayings that, like fingers, are useful but not for the same reason.
Charlie Kufs, Statistician, Willow Grove, Pa, US

HOW BIG SHOULD MY CAR DOWN PAYMENT BE?
Have at least a 20% down payment (unless you’re buying an old car, then 10% is the bare minimum), but if the interest rate is over 7%, save for a bigger down payment and wait until you absolutely need the car.

STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODEL SAMPLE SIZES
When estimating structural equation models (sometimes called "covariance structure" models), you should have at least five observations per estimated parameter (but more is better, with some experts recommending at least 10 observations per parameter).
