EXTENDED WARRANTIES
The extended warranty is never worth buying on a watch, rarely worth buying on a stereo or video component, sometimes worth buying on a TV or desktop computer, and always worth buying on a laptop computer.

ECONOMIZING ON CHINESE FOOD
You'll get twice as much food for the same amount of money if you order the lunch combos from a Chinese take-out restaurant, and in most cases it will be the same food you'd get at night at a higher price. Pick up a couple of lunch combos in the middle of the day, and take them home to feed the whole family.

TESTING IN WEB BROWSERS
If you only have time to do thorough testing of your web site or application in two web browsers, use Internet Explorer for Windows and Firefox for Windows or Mac OS. It needs to work in IE because so many people use it by default, and if it works in Firefox it'll work in nearly all the other third-party browsers, including Camino, Safari, Opera, etc. If you only have time to test in one web browser, you're in the wrong line of work.

DESIGNING A NAME BADGE
If you're designing name badges for a conference or other event, make the person's name biggest of all the info. It's big enough if you can read it not while holding a sample in your hand, but while a person 8-10 feet away holds it up. That way, people can spot each other's names in casual mingling without the telltale leaning in and squinting at each other's chests. The event name, location, dates, etc. can be tiny; everyone knows where they are and why.

AVOIDING TRAFFIC ANXIETIES
THEM: When someone is tail-gating your car, slow down. It's a safe bet they'll simply pass around yours. YOU: Always take your foot off the accelerator when you see a red light up ahead (no matter how far away). After all, why speed towards a red light? And don't count telephone poles; just stay way back of cars ahead of you. Rub elbows at parties; but be an island on the road.
