PROTECTION FROM BETA RADIATION
To protect from beta radiation, use a thumb's width of a neutral-density material for shielding, such as wood, wax, or plastic. Never use only lead for beta shielding--it will increase the x-ray dose due to bremsstrahlung.

Habits
PARTS OF HABITS
Many of the little rituals people have around addictive substances (coffee, cigarettes, alcohol) are caused by their brain trying to associate something of the process with the intangible pleasurable sensations.

THE RULE OF THREE
A list of three things always sounds better, even if you're repeating yourself. This works in principle, in practice and in theory.

Safety
SAFETY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD
If you must pull your car over to the side of the road due to a break down or accident, it's only safer to wait outside the vehicle (for a tow truck or the police) if you can get at least one car length away from your vehicle and if you can move off parallel to the vehicle. If the only place to stand is infront of or behind your vehicle, it is safer to get back in the car, put on your seat belt and wait for assistance.

PAIN
When someone complains about pain, watch their hands. Flat on the belly is deep pain, if they move their hands its likely diffuse, moving pain. If they point to it, it may be a sharp pain, close to the surface. A rubbing motion is often muscular pain.

STRECHING NEW STRINGS ON A GUITAR
When you install new strings on a guitar and need to play right away, tune the guitar to pitch, grab each string at the 12th fret, stretch it straight up off the fretboard (gently!). Now let it "pop" back down. Re-tune. Repeat a couple of times and the strings will hold their tune.

FURNITURE AND DOGS
