THE TRAFFIC RULE OF 85
Traffic engineers have found that 85 percent of drivers will spontaneously drive at or below the safe speed, given ideal conditions (light traffic, dry pavement.) They will often clock traffic for awhile and use this rule to establish the speed limit.

FINDING A SAFE FOLLOWING DISTANCE
Forget calculating car lengths. The safe following distance for a car is 2 seconds behind the vehicle in front of you (assuming dry pavement.) Figure from the time that the back of the car ahead passes a shadow or crack on the road to the time the front of your car reaches it. This rule is self-adjusting for speed.

MINIMUM NUMBER OF COCKTAIL PARTY GUESTS
Cocktail parties should have at least 12 guests. With fewer guests, the party becomes one conversation in which only one person speaks at a time. At about 12 persons, the conversation splits into two or more groups with more chance for interplay and movement.

FINDING A PARKING SPACE
Unless the entrance is physically blocked, a parking ramp flashing it's "full" sign, isn't.

EVALUATING KID'S SPEECH
A child whose speech and intelligence are developing normally will say as many words per utterance (plus or minus one) as his or her age in years - e.g. a child of about 1 should be starting to make one-word utterances, a child nearing two should be starting to put two words together, etc.

FINDING A FULL MOON
Full moons will be in the south around midnight. Before midnight, they will be more and more in the direction of sunrise; after midnight, they'll be more and more in the direction of sunset - true for both hemispheres.
