YO-YOING
There is a certain "tightness" which the string should be kept at. If you unwind a few inches of string and remove all tension from that few inches; and the string has a propensity to wind about itself, it is not at the right tension. About sixteen twists per inch is right for most strings.

YO-YOING
The yo-yo makes music. A very good yo-yo thrower can actually make the string hum so loud that it is audible in a quiet environment. The rim of the yo-yo is probably traveling over 40 MPH if it makes any audible note. If the note it makes is low C the rim is traveling at nearly 60 MPH.

MAKING PAPER MACHE
It takes 15-20 collections of dryer lint from fluffy towels to make enough paper mache for one small table decoration. Sort loads by color and you'll have lint that doesn't need to be dyed.

Education
TEACHING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
You need a minimum of 8 to 10 students in a class to make it economically viable to hire a teacher. However, a teacher can teach a foreign language to a maximum of 4 to 6 students at one time. Therefore, a foreign language class cannot be both economically viable and effective.

PLANNING A SPIRAL STAIR
Spiral stairs for inside a building should be built so that they ascend as they go counter-clockwise. This is because most people are right-handed, and in the olden days, when castles were being attacked by gangs of marauders, it was life or death for the castle's inhabitants to have their weapon arms free while they were fighting.

DETERMINING THE COST OF A HOTEL ROOM
For every $1000 it costs to build a hotel room, the hotel must get $1 in room revenue. If a hotel costs $100,000 per room to build, they must average $100 per room per night.
