PANNING FOR GOLD
A good miner, doing a careful job of panning, can handle about 6 pans per hour, or 60 in ten hours - about one-third of a cubic yard of gravel. An expert working in sandy gravel without much clay or hardpan might double this, panning two-thirds of a cubic yard in a day. Under the most favorable conditions, a yard a day is just about the top limit for panning.
