WATCHING A WORKPLACE DURING AN INTERVIEW
Salary and benefits/perks are important, but don't forget about morale: this job is where you're going to spend a third of your life. Taste the coffee, and watch the receptionist. If the coffee's bad and the receptionist is stressed, it's not a good place to work. Either ask for more money, or consider turning down any job offer from that company.

BUYING PRODUCE
When buying produce, especially tomatoes, always pick from the ugliest variety in the store. Their only reason for stocking it is that it tastes good.

MOST PEOPLE LISTEN WITH THEIR RIGHT EAR
Most people prefer to be addressed in their right ears in everyday settings and are more likely to do a favor when the request is received in their right ears rather than their left ones

WHEN YOU SHOULD TOSS A CARD
You can toss out a card once you have kept it for 3 weeks. At 2 weeks is too soon because the person who gave you the card will think you didn't appreciate their thought. At 4 weeks it looks as though you forgot to do something with it and it is clutter and just hanging around.

SPANS OF 2X JOISTS
A joist made of 2x lumber (2x4,2x6, etc) will safely span, in feet, 1.5 times its width in inches. For example, a 2x6 joist will span a maximum of 9 feet.
