SPREADING MANURE
A rule of thumb for spreading manure is 5 pounds per square yard - a shovelful here and there to the imprecise. You generally use less poultry manure per square yard - a handful rather than a shovelful - because it is much higher in nitrogen than other live-stock manure.

RIDING WITH CHILDREN IN A TRAILER
When bike riding with your children in a trailer, you'll take 30 to 40 percent longer to cover the same distance; more if you stop often to look at horses. Safe top speed with the trailer is 15 mph; 20 on an open road.

TESTIFYING IN COURT
When testifying before a jury, remember that the other side's attorney wants to make you look flustered. Always sound like you're calm and sure of yourself, regardless of how fast your heart is pounding. Even if the other attorney has exposed a weakness in your testimony, your calm demeanor can minimize the damage caused by that. Also remember that the jury is probably confused by all those competing claims. The best thing you can do is make your story sound simple.

SIZING UP A REUNION
People in the reunion business say you can tell how long ago a class graduated by how they behave at their gathering. Ten years after graduation, status and achievement are important, and one-upsmanship and competitive dressing are common. Limos and tuxes are not unusual.

CHECKING A LAWN FOR DRYNESS
One way to check your lawn for dryness is to push a screwdriver into the ground. If it goes down at least 6 inches without stiff resistance, then the soil is probably moist enough. Try this in several areas of your lawn to locate any dry spots.
