TIPPING THE HOTEL MAID
Leave about a dollar a night at the end of your stay on the dresser or desk for the housekeeping staff. Leave more at an expensive hotel (over $100/night) or if they provided extra service. Leave lots more if you're leaving a mess.

PICKING YOUR BEVERAGES
Get the orange juice for free on the airplane and buy the coffee in the terminal after you land. OJ is pricier in the airport than decent coffee, and you'll certainly never find decent coffee in the air.

BLOODY MARY IN THE AIR
The flight attendant will give you the can of Bloody Mary mix as if it were a can of juice. Save the $5 and skip the vodka; it's not a big enough bottle that you'd notice it in your drink anyway.

CHILD SAFETY
A toddler, or any young child not yet able to stand erect without first stabilizing themselves in a forward flexed position on their hands and knees, can drown in even a small wading pool or any shallow body of water that is deeper than the length of their shortest arm from wrist to shoulder.

VISITING DISNEY WORLD
If expenses are a consideration when visiting Disney World, order children's meals for everybody. The food is excellent, the portions adequate, and the prices reasonable.

STORING STUFF IN YOUR GARAGE
When moving into a different home (new or used) for every month you keep stuff stored in your garage after three months of arrival, it will take one half year to get it out. After twelve months it will take an additional year for every month of garage storage.

Relationships
MEN VS. WOMEN
Women tend to act smarter than they really are at work and dumber than they really are at home. Men tend to act just the opposite.

MAINTAINING A HORSE PASTURE
Unless the weather has been very dry, mow your horse pasture every two weeks. This will make the grass thicker and break up the manure to reduce internal parasite reproduction.

ABOUT FRESH HERBS
When substituting dry herbs for fresh herbs, a good rule of thumb to follow is to substitute one-third the amount of the dried herb as the fresh that is specified - i.e. one teaspoon dried crushed basil OR 1 tablespoon fresh chopped basil. American Dairy Association Pamphlet #0247
