MOVING FURNITURE
If friends ask you to help them move, remember that the work will begin an hour after you get there, you'll finish an hour later than expected, the pizza will be colder than the beer, and the beer will be in lesser quantities than promised.

FIXING A CAR
If a car that was working stops or won't start, the problem probably is simple to fix. Catastrophic failures of major parts are rare. The apparent frequency of major breakdowns is due to unscrupulous or lazy repair shops that don't look for the simple solutions, and the publicity surrounding auto racing, where catastrophic failure is more common.

IDENTIFYING GEESE
If a flock of geese is in a close V formation, it is almost certainly Canada geese. If it is a looser V, rippling and waving, or if it is a long line like one leg of a V, it is more likely the less common snow geese.
