CHEMICAL TOXICITY FOR NONSCIENTISTS
If you don't know anything about a chemical's toxicity, count the syllables in the chemical's proper scientific name. The more syllables it has, the more toxic it is. If a chemical is abbreviated by letters (e.g., DDT, TCE, PCB) or an abbreviated or common name (e.g., perc, dioxin), it's probably very toxic and common. Any chemical with "chlor" in the name is much more toxic than a similar sounding chemical without it.

PULLING TANGLED CABLES
If you want to pull a cable out of a tangled mess, don't pull on one end. Instead, find a loop near the middle of the cable and start pull it from there. You'll encounter more than half the resistance of pulling it from one end.

ADVICE TO LOST CHILDREN
If your kids get lost in a mall or amusement park teach them to as for help from a mother who has children with her. A woman with children is statistically the least likely person to victimize a child and most likely to help. Kids should avoid single men and security guards.

MOVING TO A NEW PLACE
The urge to fix up a house you've just moved into is strongest during the first 30 days. To save money, wait for a month before you do any repairs.

RIDING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN BOSTON
When riding public transportation in Boston, allow one-half hour per transfer plus walking time. For example, a subway to trolley to bus trip would take an hour and a half plus any time spent walking to and from the stations.
