LISTENING TO YOUR ENGINE KNOCK
If your engine knocks during acceleration, it's probably the connecting rod. If the engine knocks during deceleration, it's probably the piston wrist pin. If you have piston slap (too much room between the piston and cylinder wall), the knock will be loudest when the engine is cold and idling.

MOTORCYLCE JACKET SAFETY
When the zipper or buttons on your jacket are broken, never put it on backwards to keep warm while riding a motorcyle. If you are then in an accident and survive the incident you won't survive some good intentioned rescuers trying to turn your head around the "right way."

WRITING BELIEVABLE PLOT TWISTS
Coincidences in fiction will only be accepted as plausible by the reader if they harm or set back the protagonist. The only luck the reader will believe is bad luck.

TIP TOP TOMATOES!
When planting tomato seedlings, wait until you have at least two sets of leaves, preferably three or more sets. Remove the bottom set(s) of leaves so that you have only one pair of leaves remaining. Crush some egg shells (1-2 eggs worth) and put them in a hole that is deep enough to plant your seedling to within 1/4 inch of the leaves. The ENTIRE underground part will grow roots and develop a great root structure as a result. The egg shells will promote large fruits.

TRAVELING SAFELY IN A BAD NEIGHBORHOOD
Keep your head on a swivel. Know your surroundings and your location incase you need to call 911 for help. It sounds cynical but treat everybody and everything as if they are out to hurt you. Walk brisk, not panicked. Know where you are going and how to get there. Stay on medium/high traffic main roads. Avoid long drawn out conversations on your cell phone. If you must listen to your iPod keep it at a very low volume. Look up. Keep your head up and be on alert when you walk
