WALKING SPEED
An average walking speed is about 5 km/h (3 mph), although this depends heavily on factors such as height, weight, age and terrain. Walking at 3mph, it would take 20 minutes to walk a mile. If you see an instruction telling you to walk briskly - then it means - walk at three miles an hour. - Wikipedia and other sources

MULTIPLYING BY 9
To teach a kid how to multiply by 9, hold your hands out in front of you. If you bend down your third (3) finger, notice you have 2 fingers to the left and 7 fingers to the right. Thus, 9 x 3 = 27. If you have 0 fingers to either side, put a zero in its place. It works with all of them! (Thanks Dad!)
